Moving Truck Logistics: What You Need To Know Before Hitting the Road

If you're planning on a big move, there are a lot of things on your mind: what to pack, where to get the supplies, and the expense of it all. Yet, one of the most important things to do before moving is to research what moving truck best fits your needs; a lot of times, driving to a new place in a foreign vehicle can be disconcerting, so you might also want to take some time to look into some insurance options in case of a moving truck accident. There are a couple of different options to look into: some people prefer opting with their personal car insurance company while others prefer to get additional insurance through moving truck companies. Most of them have standard package deals that are easy to understand.

When moving, moving truck companies will provide certain necessary supplies for an extra fee; some of these tools are dollies, moving blankets, and locks. They will even loan you a GPS system should you require one. With all the extra amenities they offer it may be easy to turn the insurance down before even hearing the options. If you are not interested in purchasing vehicle insurance from the company, it might be wise to call your vehicle insurance provider to ask if they cover moving truck accidents. Many companies do, though the amount may vary. One insurance provider offered a range of deductibles on moving truck companies from a price range of $200 to $1,000 dollars.

For some people, even if their own insurance provider offers coverage for moving trucks, they opt for getting extra coverage through a moving company provider. Sometimes due to price, while other times to other logistics. A lot of times, people don't want to take the chance that, should they end up in an accident in a moving truck, that their normal insurance provider would cover the expenditures. When an accident that is covered by a normal insurance provider is reported, the deductible goes up and the insurance bill that a person pays monthly increases. Therefore, in many ways, opting to go with a different insurance might be a safer bet.

The two most common rental truck insurance offered through the rental companies are Supplemental Liability Insurance and Limited Damage Waiver Insurance. Supplemental Liability Insurance can be comparable to a basic liability plan in your own personal insurance plan; it only covers damages done to a third party, so damages to the truck would not be compensated. Limited Damage Waiver Insurance is an upgraded version of the latter insurance and is comparable to collision insurance with a personal insurance company; through this extra service, the rental company will pay for damages that have also incurred on the moving truck (but the amount of coverage is decided by you when you pay up front).

One source relays that unless specifically recommended through a different company or person, you should not buy moving insurance through the company. Rental companies may pressure you to purchase extra insurance because they profit either way. If you end up purchasing the insurance but do not get into an accident while driving the moving truck, then the rental agency pockets the money; if an accident does occur and you paid for the extra coverage, the moving truck company may easily negotiate with their insurance company and make higher revenue than from the customer. Therefore, once you've weighed all your options and talk to your normal insurance company provider, you might be able to make a better informed decision that could give you a peace of mind on the road.
