Stunt Driving Accident Leaves Drivers Best Friend Permanently Brain Damaged

Teenagers are known for their desire to have a good time, and even try dangerous things; boys in particular. When these guys reach the college age, there is a greater sense of freedom because they are likely out of the hairs of their parents, and therefore can go out and do the crazy tricks without worrying about bearing the wrath of their parents. Unfortunately, these silly stunts often times have devastating consequences, and the children can look back and see that their parents warnings to be safe growing up were actually for a purpose, not just to suck the fun out of life. While many kids will learn these consequences after they break an arm doing that crazy skateboarding trick, or after some other accident that causes them a school suspension or hospital visit; some are not as lucky to make it out the way they went in.

That was the case for 19 year old George who after a crazy car accident stunt was left in a permanently brain damaged state. Reports show that the driver, whose first name is Daniel, was a good kid who was a strong student and actively involved in his local church; he just made one mistake that caused his best friend essentially his life. Last April these two guys did what teens call "car surfing," meaning that one kid would ride on the top of a car as they drove through a parking garage. George was that guy on top of the car and according to reports Daniel drove through the parking garage and George somehow came off and on his way down slammed his head into the car bumper.

The 19 year old boy, a biomedical student at Western University, was then taken immediately to the local hospital, and the doctors performed brain surgery. George made it out alive, though the doctors told his family that he would be permanently brain damaged and never be able to finish his time as a student at the university. As a result of the incident, Daniel was sentenced to spend 75 days behind bars for his reckless stunt driving, and he will also be under probation for the following 18 months, his license will be suspended for two years, and he will be required to do 40 hours of community service. As a part of this service, the court wants them to lecture students about stunt driving and the real life dangers that can happen with one stupid mistake.

Reports at this time share that George and Daniel still keep in touch, even after the accident. Daniel is filled with remorse over his actions and his attorney claims that night he did not weigh the consequences that his actions might have. Despite the amounts of remorse and sorrow for his best friend's loss of brain function, this driver's actions still have played a huge role in the severe and permanent injury of the victim. When interviewed, the mother had said right after the accident that she wasn't sure if asking God to keep him here or to take him home was the best thing.

While this family may not choose to take legal action, there are many families who may want to hold the negligent drivers responsible for their actions. If you or a loved one have been injured in a car accident, do not hesitate in contacting a car accident attorney in your area to help you pursue the compensation you deserve after the incident. Permanent injuries may quickly add up to extensive medical costs, and compensation will help these costs over the years along with any other pain and suffering that may have been caused to the victim and the family.
