Insurer Allstate Ranks the Best and Worst Cities to Drive

Allstate Releases Best Drivers Report

Car insurance company Allstate has released its "Best Driver's Report", which ranks the safest cities to drive in in America. The rankings are based on the population of a city, the city's density, rain and snowfall, and overall driving conditions. The report also takes note of the average number of years between accidents and the likelihood of an accident compared to the national average.

Best & Worst Cities to Drive

Some of the top safest cities to drive in are:

  • Fort Collins, Colorado
  • Brownsville, Texas
  • Boise, Idaho
  • Kansas City, Kansas
  • Huntsville, Alabama

The cities with the highest number of car accidents include:

  • Worcester, Massachusetts
  • Boston, Massachusetts
  • Washington, DC
  • Springfield, Massachusetts
  • Providence, Rhode Island

Factors Affecting the Allstate Report

Allstate looks at data from those insured through its company. This report examines data collected from January 2011 to 2012. Allstate is the largest home and auto insurer in the country, giving it plenty of statistics to pull from.

Drivers in urban areas have population-density related safety issues to consider, such as pedestrians, delivery trucks, city buses, parking cars, and taxi cabs. The goal is to illustrate how safe driving is complicated by a number of external factors.

Nearly 70% of vehicles involved in traffic accident claims are still drivable, meaning that the collision occurred at speeds of less than 35 miles per hour.

Tips to Prevent Collisions

Even the best drivers in the world can find themselves in a car accident. Some ways to avoid accidents are:

  • Be aware of your surroundings
  • Get directions ahead of time
  • Avoid distractions, such as texting or eating while driving
  • Allow enough time to arrive at your destination
  • Stay aware of road conditions
  • Maintain your vehicle

Whether an accident occurs in the best city to drive in or worst city to drive in, a car crash can take a huge financial, physical, and psychological toll. Should a crash occur, contact an experienced car accident attorney immediately!
